My name is Sophia Brousset and I am a Peruvian-American student at the University of St Andrews studying International Relations and Social Anthropology. I am fluent in Spanish and have lived in four countries (the UK, Peru, Switzerland, and the USA). Growing up in Peru, a country with a great amount of gender inequality, sparked an absorption in the feminist cause at a young age. This flame has not burnt out, and, amalgamated with my academic interest in international relations, resulted in an interest in understanding patriarchy as a global power structure.

My research explores the Incan Empire's positive view of female homosexuality, exploring how their diverse understandings of gender influenced these views on sexuality. It will also consider how La Conquista's use of a European lens and translation when documenting the Incas resulted in the erasure of much of the sexual and gender diversity which existed throughout Incan Peru.

I am a first year student at the University of Leeds studying Civil and Environmental Engineering MEng.

I am a 4th year History student from the University of St Andrews. I spent the past year studying and working abroad in Oslo and in Prague. My research analysed the words and phrases of key documents of 1910s Ireland, and used these to evaluate the wider ideologies of Nationalism and Unionism, particularly concerning individual experiences of the ideologies. My research proved the value of speeches and literature to the historian in uncovering wider society. Determined to build upon this research, I am currently creating a website. This will function as an online archive for speeches and literature and offer my research as an interpretation to aid in understanding. I hope that this will be an accessible and beneficial tool for those interested in Irish history. My first-year research project looked at the way game-based learning could be incorporated into Multi-Academy Trusts (aka MATs) to improve the academic attainment and classroom engagement of GCSE-year black students. For my Leadership-in-Action project in 2023, I will be travelling to Peru with MakeSense to plan ways to empower the indigenous communities which reside in the country.

My first-year Laidlaw project was focused on researching Russian political parties in the lead-up to the country's 2021 parliamentary elections. Hello! My name is Joe Linogao (he/him), and I am an Engineering with Management student at Trinity College Dublin. I became a Laidlaw Scholar for TCD on April 2021 with my research proposal, "Automated Procedure for the Microbial Analysis of Contact Plates."

For my course, I specialise in Energy/Fluid studies, focusing on fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and engineering design. Despite this, I have taken a keen interest in robotics and machine learning which were major influencers for my research project. Additionally, I am currently a part of a student-led Robotics research team under the same supervisor I have for Laidlaw.

Outside of college work, I am very interested in Arduino, coding (MATLAB/Python are my strongest languages), Solidworks and 3D Printing, all of which I have great knowledge with. However, I am always willing to hone my skills and learn other skills if need be.

My hobbies include music and Dungeons & Dragons (like the absolute nerd I am). Regarding music, I've posted many songs (covers & originals) on outlets such as Youtube, Spotify, Apple Music, and many more (check out my website for more details)! Due to this, I also have plenty of experience with software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro.

The aim of my research is to implement the UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Barbados, bridge the gap in understanding between legislators and their constituents, and improve the lives of those in disadvantaged and marginalized communities. Hello, I'm a first-year chemical engineering student at UCL. My research project for this programme looked into the economic feasibility of three different wastewater treatment solutions for organic matter removal and energy production. I also explored the environmental sustainability of these technologies through a self-assessed quantitative impact assessment.

I am a second year law student at Trinity College Dublin, conducting a research project on period poverty and how it impacts participation in education in Ireland.

I'm currently a final year history student at Durham University from West Sussex with a particular interest in connections between the modern and medieval worlds, and soon to be specialising in early modern-modern history. For my research, I investigated the use of the Crusades within far-right organizations and what it reveals about the readings of crusade history.
