I am a third-year undergraduate student studying at the University of Toronto - Mississauga campus. My interests lie in the pain field where I am working on mapping the neural pathways underlying placebo analgesia and also testing novel drugs to treat chronic pain. My hope is to be able to successfully help in treating chronic pain in the future.

My name is Abhay, and I'm in my 2nd year at the University of Toronto. I'm doing a double major in Global Health and Peace, Conflict & Justice with a minor in Indigenous Studies. My research topic relates to climate change and mental health. I'm hoping to study the impacts of climate change on the mental health of youth climate activists across Canada and then do the Leadership in Action track next summer to put some of the findings from this research into action! Beyond Laidlaw, I'm a huge hockey fan (and player) and also love playing the piano [if you want to check out my piano page]!  I host a podcast called Different Boat, Same Storm (that's all about kindling empathy during the pandemic) and run a nonprofit - Break The Divide - that's all about creating personal connections and fostering empathy.

Hello! I recently graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology Research from the University of Toronto. I’m passionate about youth mental health and how humour can be used to support resilience after adversity. My Summer 1 research project explored the relationship between childhood adversity, aggression, and self-regulation — deepening my understanding of the psychological impacts of early trauma. In Summer 2, I led a Leadership-in-Action project at SOS Children’s Villages in Cape Town, where I designed and facilitated a comedy-based mental health program for teens. That experience led me to found HaHaHelps — an organization that uses improv comedy to support youth mental health through accessible, community-led workshops. I'm currently piloting the full program in South Africa, with plans to expand to more communities globally. Hi everyone! I am a first-year undergraduate student at the University of Toronto. My primary academic interests include the science of well-being, philosophy of mind, and subjective impacts of contemplative traditions. My research project surrounds how Buddhist-inspired meditation practices impact the phenomenology of experienced meditations, specifically their sense of self, objecthood, and command over their emotion.  I am originally from India, but I graciously got to spend my childhood across six other countries: Zimbabwe, Nepal, Kenya, Switzerland, Bangladesh, and Qatar. Witnessing so many diverse contexts has opened me up to unique traditions, patterns of behaviour, and problems that characterize our world.  I look forward to meeting and learning from the extremely talented and passionate members of the Laidlaw community :)

I am an undergraduate at the University of Toronto in the Mental Health Specialist Program.  I am passionate about mental health, clinical psychology, and social psychology. My research project looks explores the phenomenon of how far-right extremists groups are utilizing memes to spread their influence. I am specifically interested in what messages they are conveying and the dominant patterns present in the memes. My personal interests include: hydroponics (I have currently 29 plants in my room!), and spending time in nature (I love to go hiking with my friends).

I am going into my second year studying physics and mathematics. I’m interested in the Arctic’s changing climate as well as environmental solutions. My current project is about mapping the trajectory of sea ice in the Last Ice Area. Feel free to reach out - I am always happy to chat!

My name is Alice (she/her) and I have just finished my first year at the University of Toronto studying Cognitive Science, and Philosophy as a National Scholar. I am from a small province called Newfoundland and Labrador, but studied for two years at Pearson College UWC in Victoria, British Columbia. I am really passionate about mental illness - specifically about how our conception of mental illness shapes the way we treat people with mental illness in medical institutions, and in society. I am also very invested in the climate justice movement. 

I'm an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto double majoring in Molecular Genetics & Microbiology and Immunology as well as minoring in Creative Expression & Society. 

Daniel is a Lester B. Pearson and Laidlaw Scholar at the University of Toronto's Trinity College, where he is pursuing a specialist in International Relations with minors in Economics and Political Science. Daniel's experience, skill set, and interests lie at the intersection of multilateralism and human rights. He has interned at the foundations of two Nobel Laureates (Gabo Foundation & Compaz Foundation), the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Colombia and, most recently, the Organization of American States (OAS). He has also served in multiple volunteer positions at the Canadian International Council, the Victoria Foundation, UWC Colombia, and CISV International. His studies, internships, and volunteer positions have led him to visit 23 countries. Daniel is an avid traveler and an amateur photographer.

Hi everyone! I'm Anna Lysenko. I'm a fourth-year undergraduate student in the International Relations Specialist program at the University of Toronto. I'm passionate about cyberpolitics and cybersecurity: my Laidlaw research project is about the effect of cyber-attacks on democracy.  My hobbies include reading, writing, travelling, drawing, horse riding, meeting up with friends, and watching movies. Hello! My name is Yusra, and I graduated from the University of Toronto, St. George, in 2023. I'm now currently doing my MSc. in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution at Columbia University.  My Laidlaw research utilizes the concepts of Self-determination theory, and focused on analyzing the biggest barriers to a 'positive' university experience, possible solutions that can be enacted, and how all these factors influenced student mental health.  My work now spans the intersection of mental health, conflict resolution, and social justice. I work as a Case Manager at an anti-human trafficking organization, and also work in the climate justice space with Canadian civil society.

Toronto based designer, researcher and community volunteer involved in interdisciplinary projects and student-led mentorship and leadership initiatives. My architecture work focuses on digital timber fabrication and AI computational architecture. I incorporate GIS, Grasshopper, Midjourney, Blender and other tools to look at architecture through a multifaceted lens and dissect problems pertaining to sustainability and urban planning, My other interests include advocacy, library-hopping and deep sea diving.
