Hello! As a student of psychology and economics, I have always been fascinated by the logic and illogic of human behaviour. This interest has driven me to pursue a rich diversity of projects and ideas - ranging from documenting the landscape of online Islamophobia in China under the Laidlaw Scholars Programme, to solving policy problems in the Prime Minister’s Office of Singapore through the lens of behavioural economics. Next summer, I will be travelling to Kenya to examine how the mobile financing system M-Pesa has succeeded at reaching the hardest to reach. With the Scott Lab in OISE, I investigate the overlooked experiences of male perpetrators of domestic violence in the child welfare system. Under the supervision of my professors, I also work tirelessly with my peers to advocate for culturally-informed and just mental health services for students locally and abroad. In October, we published our first project - a photo essay examining the relationship between social exclusion and mental health for internal migrants in China. The essay can be found here: https://movinginmovingout.shorthandstories.com/index.html
In everything that I do, I am motivated to seek out the strange, the surprising, and the subtle. I believe that such hidden truths can be operationalised into insights that can improve the lived realities of others, one step at a time. If you have an idea you’d like to share, please feel free to reach out. Thanks for stopping by!
Hello! My name is Julie and I am a current National Scholar studying architecture at the University of Toronto. I am interested in the intersection between architecture and mental health, which has resulted in me pursuing a minor in Buddhism, Mental Health and Psychology. Outside of school I am a cellist, photographer, and dancer. I am excited to research how architecture impacts mental health and use my findings in my designs. As an architect, I aspire to open my own firm and design spaces that connect others and bring light to the world.
I'm a third year student in Political Science and English literature student at the University of Toronto. I'm interested in international development economics, political media, and journalism.

🌱 Aptly described as a pragmatic hippy, I'm led jointly by empathy and evidence. While I am emotionally moved by injustices in the world, I am intellectually motivated to find effective solutions to them. As such, I am both a heart-led community organizer and a reason-based biological researcher. Often, I ask myself: given the resources that I have, how can I do the most good?
🔬 • I have published my research in Frontiers in Immunology, won a gold and a silver medal at the Canada Wide Science fair, and a second place prize at the Toronto Sanofi Biogenius Competition. • For my Laidlaw project, I am conducting an independent research project with Professor Balachundhar at Harvard Medical School, to determine :what are the most effective, mindfulness-based meditations are in Calm and Headspace mobile applications? Through this project, I aim to begin to fill the precipitous gap between mental illness and accessibility to effective mental health interventions.
🎓 I am second-year undergraduate student at Victoria College, the University of Toronto, majoring in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology and minoring in Environmental Studies and Buddhism, Psychology, and Mental Health.
