During my undergraduate education, this was one summer when I genuinely enjoyed the work I did. Coming into this experience, I wasn't sure if I was fit for the job, seeing as I had little exposure to data research, acquisition, and visualization. This experience surprised me because I never thought I would come to enjoy tedious data work. However, I began to realize that it considers the broader implications of the information we have on world populations and how they can inform later crucial data-oriented projects. In addition, I enjoyed learning about the various phases of data preparation and visualization, which makes me even more grateful for this experience, expanding my outlook for the kinds of work I see myself doing in the foreseeable future.

Another thing I learned from this experience was the importance of building a community with those you work with. Granted, I knew that this fact was always important to people when looking for jobs and trial-testing experiences they enjoy and don't enjoy, but I never fully internalized it until I started looking forward to going to the office as opposed to working from home. I came to really enjoy working with everyone who was on the project, and even those who were in the broader organization that I hope to work with very soon!

Through this internship, I have had the privilege of observing various styles of leadership across different contexts. Overall, this internship has demonstrated to me how successful leadership across different industries at its foundation is the same. Consistent open-communication, consideration, celebration of wins, acknowledging areas of improvement, and open-mindedness cultivated in the team's spirit, allow for a wholesome, motivating, and exciting work environment. I am excited to continue working in this environment, as I extend my role as an intern into the fall semester!
