My Leadership in Action project took place in Mexico City with Las Sabinas, focusing on gender‑based violence prevention and child wellbeing through participatory puppetry and theatre. The core goal was to support community‑led psychosocial interventions that addressed gender‑based violence and its downstream health effects by using puppets and staged workshops as therapeutic and educational tools.

The main objective was to translate leadership into tangible action by collaborating with Las Sabinas staff, volunteers, and local stakeholders to design, build, and deliver puppet‑based therapy and workshops for children and families. I applied community engagement, co‑design, and project‑management skills to coordinate volunteer teams, run sessions, collect feedback, and adapt activities to local needs. I strengthened my abilities in facilitation, culturally sensitive communication, and evidence‑informed evaluation while learning how social determinants shaped health outcomes in vulnerable communities. A key outcome was seeing our puppets and stage used in ongoing therapy and workshops, which helped raise awareness, reduce stigma, and support emotional resilience among participants.

This project aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 Good Health and Well‑being by promoting psychosocial support and healthier outcomes; SDG 4 Quality Education through creative, participatory learning for children; SDG 5 Gender Equality by addressing gender‑based violence and empowering survivors; SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities by strengthening local social services and community cohesion; and SDG 17 Partnerships for the Goals
