Leadership Through Adaptability
By week five, I realized leadership in this context meant being flexible and responsive to participants’ needs. Attendance sometimes fluctuated, and not every family felt comfortable joining at first. To address this, we made sessions shorter, more conversational, and welcoming to drop-ins. The change worked, participants engaged more actively, asked questions, and even shared personal stories about challenges they faced at doctors’ offices or in daily interactions. These conversations reminded me that community leadership is about collaboration, not top-down instruction.
