Hello from Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar! I am currently sitting here waiting for my flight to Entebbe, Uganda, after a day of thoroughly exploring the airport and a three-hour city tour. The city tour was a great way to spend part of my 12-hour layover, and I got to see the Doha wharf, the Museum of Islamic Art, camels, Katara Cultural Center and mosque, and Souq Waqif, the marketplace (in the 111 degree heat!). After surviving on airplane food, chocolate cake, and overpriced fruit cups for the last 24 hours, I am excited to get to Uganda and settle in!

In Uganda, I will be completing my Leadership-in-Action (LiA) project with the Kasiisi Project (also known as the Kibale Forest Schools Program), who are based out of Fort Portal, Uganda, a city that borders Kibale National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park. I will be working as part of the KFSP conservation education team, which educates students and community members at 16 local schools about the environment and personal hygiene, aiming to improve their well-being and protect the health of the endangered primates that are native to the area. Projects that I am particularly interested in getting involved in include a reusable menstrual pad program that KFSP conducts as part of an incentive to keep girls in school. I am also excited to see elephants in Queen Elizabeth National Park, try the local cuisine, and for everything else that these next six weeks have in store! Updates from Fort Portal to come!
