I recently had the greatest pleasure to meet some of my Laidlaw Near Peer group over Zoom, and it was so wonderful to connect with other Laidlaw scholars at universities across the world. After sharing brief summaries of our projects—which were to do with our group's theme of "Global History and its Discontents"—we talked about our progress and struggles with our research/fieldwork, post-graduation aspirations, and more. I felt really inspired by their shared interest in being leaders, particularly in the academic field; we discussed how our hopes to continue graduate studies in foreign countries would be enriched by the global network that Laidlaw creates and the bonds with each other that we strengthen over time. I also appreciated not only their willingness, but their active pursuit to understand different perspectives, a spirit that I hope to bring into my research this summer as well. I highly recommend reaching out to other Laidlaw scholars over the next year to anyone!
