Yesterday, I officially wrapped up my last day at the Columbia Justice Lab! It has been such a wonderful experience learning and working with the amazing team and other summer fellows. I've learned very valuable technical skills that help generate action-based policy-making in the justice system.
In my last few weeks, I finished my data analysis on economic, social, and health outcomes for Texas probationers across the state and various counties. The data and summary memos I created will be used by the Probation and Parole team at the Lab to further enhance their literature reviews and correspondence with local Texas criminal justice organizations who are working towards more just and equitable legislation.
In a few days, I'll be heading to Europe to conduct research for my senior thesis, thanks to the Columbia History department and Columbia Weatherhead East Asian Institute's generous support. I'll be researching scientific knowledge transmission between China and Europe in the Qing Dynasty, building off of the research in the history of science I conducted as a Laidlaw scholar last summer! I hope that the quantitative skills I built this summer will also enhance my research experience. I am very grateful to the Laidlaw Foundation for supporting my endeavors in the past two years, and am looking forward to seeing what my fellow scholars have accomplished this summer!
