We are kicking off Black History Month and LGBT+ History Month with a leadership quote from Andrea Jenkins—the first openly transgender Black woman elected to public office in the U.S.!
Jenkins took office on the Minneapolis City Council in January 2018 after winning 73% of the vote. On her first day, she was elected Vice President of City Council, and soon afterwards helped establish the Race Equity Community Advisory Committee.
She is also an award-winning poet, writer, performer, and curator for the University of Minnesota's Transgender Oral History Project.
Hello! My name is Nikol and I look after the Laidlaw Scholars Network.
I am originally from Kazakhstan and I studied Human Sciences at UCL. My final research explored the potential effects of design on patient wellbeing in hospitals, and I also took modules such as Ethnographic Documentary Filmmaking, Anthropology of the Built Environment, Art in the Public Sphere, and other less interesting-sounding things :)
Drop me a line if you have any questions about the site, or if you'd just like to chat! I am always down to meet interesting people, so let's get [virtual] coffee ☕️

As Lord Laidlaw, our Chairman, and Susanna Kempe, our CEO, met with scholars and alumni from around the world, many requested a way to meet ambitious peers, participate in leadership-in-action initiatives and collaborate on research projects for a better present. We welcome you to the Laidlaw Scholars Network, a social utility tool that allows you to do just this! Be the new generation of passionate, adaptive, ethical leaders.
