  • What are some of the ethical issues that you are grappling with in your research? What are some of the ways in which you are responding to these questions?

The biggest issue that I am facing has to do with the fact that I have not yet received IRB approval for my research. This is presenting a huge barrier as I am ready to begin conducting interviews (having conducted preliminary research, lit review, and neighborhood selection for comparative analysis), but can not yet talk to people. I have been working closely with the IRB office and my advisor to address these concerns.

  • As you continue your research, have you considered alternative viewpoints in your investigation? If so, how have these alternative viewpoints enriched or changed your project?

In my case, it is becoming more likely that I will have to primarily conduct a literature review and ethnography instead of interview data collection. To do this I have been trying to gain as much information on my target neighborhoods as possible, diving more deeply into these neighborhoods and connecting with community organizations.
