Data Center Energy Governance Database
By systematically analyzing, coding, and mapping these emerging legislative approaches in a centralized database, this research conceptualizes data-center expansion not merely as an economic-development or technology-policy issue, but as an emerging test of state capacity to govern infrastructure, allocate environmental and economic externalities, and ensure public accountability amid rapidly accelerating electricity demand. It further examines how these policy responses vary across states and correspond with political ideology, geographic and resource conditions, and patterns of local sentiment, revealing the factors influencing approaches to governing the data-center buildout.
I am an undergraduate at Columbia University studying Sustainable Development and Political Science, with interests in energy policy, circular economy, and enviornmental diplomacy.
My background combines advocacy, policy, and scholarship, and my research builds on this by examining nationwide legislative frameworks central to the AI revolution and the rapid expansion of data centers.
