Hi, my name is Badria, and I’m a population health and social data science student at UCL.
Hi, I'm Chico, a University of St Andrews student starting third year. I study Physics and Philosophy, being interested above all in the fundamental interpretations of quantum mechanics, metaphysics, and the impacts of non-determinism to the existence of free will. My Laidlaw research project was focused on analysing vanadium dioxide layered meta surfaces in search of epsilon near zero materials with tunable properties, utilising transfer matrix methods.
Outside of my studies and project I enjoy reading, playing board games, chess and video-games, cooking and sometimes writing.
Get in contact if you would like to chat about anything mentioned above or any subject you are passionate about. :)
Research Project: A bio-impedance analysis-based HMI system for robotic control
My interests lie at the intersection of hardware, software and entrepreneurship. My technical skills and interests include: machine learning, embedded software development, FPGA programming. Co-founder & President of the UCL Product Development Society.
Machine Learning Researcher at the Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Reese Taylor is a rising junior majoring in Philosophy, History, and Human Rights on a pre-law track. As a Laidlaw Scholar, she spent her first summer researching the role of labor in the economic and social uplift of Black Americans in the wake of Reconstruction. She was selected to present this research at Johns Hopkins University, The University of Pennsylvania, and the Global Laidlaw Scholars Conference. In her second summer, Reese founded The Voices in Action Initiative which is a program developed to empower and mobilize youth voices by providing them skills and practice in speech and debate. She enacted the program in Nassau, Bahamas with sponsorship from both the Laidlaw Foundation and The Kiwanis Club of Nassau.
Hello! My name is Batool and I am a final year Arts and Sciences at UCL. I take classes on environmental sciences, political science and education.
For my summer research project, I co-produced a policy brief with student recommendations for sustainable futures in higher education which is addressed to policy makers in universities in the UK.
For my Leadership-in-Action project, I am conducting a similar research project with WWF-Pakistan. I am organising participatory workshops with university students from Lahore and plan to use this research for my undergraduate dissertation. If you have any questions about these projects, or about conducting a research-based LiA please do not hesitate to message me!
At UCL I was the President of the UCL Sign Language Society where I led a team of 9 other undergraduate students to organise sign language classes and events to raise awareness of deafness for a society which has over 200 student members. I am currently the Vice President of the Ahlulbayt Islamic Society committee, organising charity campaigns and faith-based awareness events on taking action for global issues.
I am interested in the fields of mechanobiology, biohybrid prosthetics, biophysics, Jungian psychology, and philosophy.
Recently in association with Laidlaw;
In Cornell University (N.Y, U.S.A.) I worked on curating an art book on biomechanics for charity to raise awareness in this field of science.
And in Trinity College Dublin (Ireland), we worked on developing a microphysiological model of the osteocytic network in the bone that can be used to better understand the (patho)physiology of bone using Direct Laser Writing technology using MLO-Y4 cell culture.
On the side;
In ETH Zürich (Switzerland), I was working on understanding bio-hybrid muscle actuators using C2C12 cell culture by amassing literature review, designing biobot unit, and conducting biocompatibility tests along with growing and differentiating muscle cells for further electrical stimulation.
At DogPatch Labs's Patch (Dublin, Ireland) I was experimenting with creating a start-up company to help amputees get affordable prosthetics.
On the (other) side;
I like to dance, write, and read anything I get my hands on; be it music, poetry, or even shampoo bottles.
