I am an undergraduate at Cornell pursuing a B.S. in International Agriculture & Rural Development (IARD). My long-term aspiration is to deliver improved agricultural and public health outcomes using agronomy principles, geospatial tools, and community-engaged approaches. My current focus is on circular bionutrient economy opportunities in the Lake Victoria basin (Kenya) to address simultaneous eutrophication in the lake and nutrient deficit in surrounding agriculture, primarily through novel sanitation and fertilizer production methods. My research with Prof. Rebecca Nelson at Cornell and with Prof. Charles Midega at Poverty & Health Integrated Solution (PHIS) and Maseno University in Kisumu, Kenya, strives to advance these opportunities.
I was introduced to agriculture at a young age while working for a diversified livestock farm in my hometown, where I gained an appreciation for the scientific method and agricultural research.
I am motivated by exhilarating collaboration, the excitement of being on the cutting edge of agricultural research and development, and agriculture’s vast impact on public and environmental health.
I am a Lecturer at the School of Physics & Astronomy, University of St Andrews, UK. My research involves the multi-wavelength -- ultraviolet, optical and infrared -- study of accreting compact objects, such as white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes and more recently of super-massive black holes.
I am currently the PI of a Key Project at the Las Cumbres Observatory to perform reverberation mapping experiments of Active Galactic Nuclei. This project employs a world-wide network of telescopes to observe, throughout the optical part of the spectrum, variability of the material plunging into the supermassive black hole. I'm also interested in transient astronomy and instrumentation, being part of the science team behind OPTICam, a new multi-band camera for the Mexican National Observatory.
I am a 2022 Laidlaw Scholar from the University of Leeds. My research is all about commerical and insolvency law, testing the assumption that "the insolvency of the principal terminates the agency relationship whilst the insolvency of the agent terminates the relationship only if it makes him unfit to perform his duties". Basically, how does an agent (e.g. the UK seller of Australian wine) running out of or being low on money effect contractual relationships.
Technical bits aside, in my spare time I love to be active - particularly endurance sports.
I am also an avid follower of UK and US politics, with an emphasis on constitutional affairs and defence/foreign policy.
Hi! I am a final year Physics & Astrophysics student in Trinity College Dublin. My research was on radio-astronomy of the Sun with particular interest in predicting potentially disruptive solar weather and my LIA was Science Outreach with the World Science Festival in New York.
Apart from physics I'm interested in running, rugby, card games and snowsports. I enjoy being outside, exercising, film/TV and reading. I am particularly interested in connecting with students from around the globe and broadening my horizons!
Please feel free to contact me if you're interested in astrophysics, science outreach or have any questions about my time during Laidlaw and my other experiences!
Hi, I'm Thomas (or Tom) I'm a Third-Year medical student studying at Hull York Medical School (HYMS). So far, the course has been great and I have really enjoyed meeting lots of new people. My research project focuses around an area of biology I have found super interesting since joining medical school - the blood and the immune system! As well as my studies, I am a Choral Singer for Hull Minster where I sing a whole range of music, as well as performing with other various music groups in the Yorkshire Area. I am also the Regional Student Volunteering Officer for the North East.
In terms of the future, my plans aren't completely set in stone yet - I'm open to many new experiences before I make that decision. If you have any questions for me, I would love for you to get in contact :)
An aspiring Clinical Psychologist, currently an undergraduate studying Psychology (Integrated MSci) at the University of York. I see a future in which mental healthcare is adaptive to an individual's cultural and personal needs. I am also interested in alternative/ complimentary therapies for treatment resistant mood disorders such as deep brain stimulation and psilocybin therapy. My current research involves working with a Prosopagnosic (face blind) individual to better understand how we both learn and recognise faces.
For my Leadership in Action programme, I am working with "MakeSense", an organisation based in Mexico City. I am developing a social empowerment project supporting rural communities in Mexico.
