About Sravya Dontharaju
My name is Sravya and I am interested in carceral and racial justice. I am drawn to this topic because I have spent the past year working for a non-profit which provides high quality individual tutoring to incarcerated students. The title of my project is Incarceration of South-Asians in America: Invisibility Within the Carceral System. This summer I will be researching the lack of racial data collected on South Asian American when they are inside the carceral system. This matters because the discrimination South Asian Americans face is often overlooked due to racialized stereotypes. One value guiding me in this work is representation because I hope to center a vulnerable community, not act as a savior. Through this project I hope to practice timeliness as a leader. I would welcome feedback or connection related to South Asian system impacted community spaces!
