I'm Nora, a final year undergraduate student studying History and Art History at Trinity College Dublin. I'm originally from Massachusetts in the United States. I'm interested in the intersection between history and art history: I'm fascinated by the people, communities, and cultures behind the art, and the social spheres in which art was produced. I also am very interested in heritage sites and the preservation of history and visual culture through architecture. In my free time, I enjoy visiting museums, going to cafes, and taking long walks around Dublin. My 2024 Laidlaw research project examines the homes of women living outside of heteronormative conventions in early-twentieth century Dublin. 

Hi there! I'm Jane Emmins, a Junior Sophister in English Studies at Trinity College Dublin. My Summer 1 research was concerned with representations of space, place, and utopianism in the literature of Fire Island 1940-2000. I was interested in exploring how contrasting authors handled ideas and constructions of 'gay paradise' as a means to interogate the nature of queer utopian desire(s) in America at this pivotal period in LGBTQ+ history.  I am a lover of sacred music and a member of multiple choirs. Hi! I'm Eve and I'm studying Middle Eastern and European Languages and Cultures (with German and Turkish) at Trinity College Dublin. My research project focussed on the challenges facing Vergangenheitsbewältigung in modern Germany, including rising antisemitism, the 2015 migratory wave, subsequent refugee integration and developments in the Israel-Palestine conflict. I investigated how to tackle this issue in a way that appropriately condemns antisemitism and safeguards the wellbeing and integration of Germany's Muslim community. In addition, I considered wider questions surrounding migrant assimilation and national identity.  In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my friends, sea-swimming, hiking and reading. I also love to travel and am very interested in learning languages and connecting with people from across the world, so please feel free to reach out - I would love to chat about anything project (or otherwise) related!

My name is Duncan Johnson and I'm the founder of BX Coding, a nonprofit dedicated to educating underserved K-12 students in the STEM fields. Over the past six years, I've taught hundreds of students the fundamentals of programming and engineering. I especially love teaching elementary school students -- their creativity and energy are boundless!  My Laidlaw research project is developing a curriculum that helps transition middle school students from block-based coding (Scratch) to text-based coding (Python).  This summer, I traveled to Nepal to work with the nonprofit Karkhana Samuha, where I taught students in public schools and created educational materials for students in grades 6-10. At Tufts University, I'm a Computer Science major, and I'm pursuing minors in Engineering Education and Entrepreneurship for Social Impact. 

Hi! I’m a final year student in Trinity College Dublin, studying theoretical physics. I completed my research project on the topic of using machine learning to identify properties that don’t vary in moving physical systems.

🌱 Aptly described as a pragmatic hippy, I'm led jointly by empathy and evidence. While I am emotionally moved by injustices in the world, I am intellectually motivated to find effective solutions to them. As such, I am both a heart-led community organizer and a reason-based biological researcher. Often, I ask myself: given the resources that I have, how can I do the most good? 🔬 • I have published my research in Frontiers in Immunology, won a gold and a silver medal at the Canada Wide Science fair, and a second place prize at the Toronto Sanofi Biogenius Competition. • For my Laidlaw project, I am conducting an independent research project with Professor Balachundhar at Harvard Medical School, to determine :what are the most effective, mindfulness-based meditations are in Calm and Headspace mobile applications? Through this project, I aim to begin to fill the precipitous gap between mental illness and accessibility to effective mental health interventions.  🎓 I am second-year undergraduate student at Victoria College, the University of Toronto, majoring in Biodiversity and Conservation Biology and minoring in Environmental Studies and Buddhism, Psychology, and Mental Health. 

I am a PhD researcher in Global Health at University College London. I am also a qualified pharmacist (MPharm and BSc Pharm) with an MSc degree in sociology. Hi there! My name is Tea Stapar and I'm a third year Biological and Biomedical Sciences student in Trinity College Dublin, specialising in Biochemistry. My research project is based on studying metabolomics of a chemotherapy drug called HAMLET/Alpha 1 using NMR spectroscopy. I'll be investigating whether this chemotherapeutic could be used to treat human osteosarcoma. Looking forwards to the experience and connecting with new people!

Hi! I’m Nicole and I’m a first-year undergraduate at Columbia University planning to study astrophysics. This summer, I’m living in New York City and conducting remote astronomy research. My project is searching for gravitational wave counterparts, particularly binary-black hole mergers, by looking for signature halos of scattered X-ray light. Aside from research, I love rock climbing, playing tennis and piano, and exploring the city!
