Hi, I am part of the 2023 Laidlaw cohort at the University of Leeds.
I am currently studying Adult Nursing. I am passionate about everything to do with nursing. There are many pathways that I will be able to explore throughout my career. However, currently, I am mostly interested in genomics and would like to explore this further throughout my studies. I also have a huge passion for women’s health, especially for different ethnic groups, to be able to provide education and break through the taboo barriers. Working as an adult nurse is challenging but satisfying. It is a vital role where you will make a real difference in people’s lives.
In Summer 2023, I worked on a pre-defined research project: ‘Evaluating Interdisciplinary 'Welcome, Induction, and Transitions' Support in the Undergraduate Curriculum.’ I worked alongside academics and other students to understand the outcomes associated with successful transitions, using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The conclusion of my findings can be found on my page, so please have a read! The project and journey were exciting, and I developed a lot more knowledge about education policies and the huge impact it has on students, especially underrepresented groups. From the project, I have built on my leadership style and other skills due to being student-led.
In the summer of 2024, I worked on my LiA project, which focused on teaching health education to children in Bali. I developed a tailored program that could be implemented and sustained even after my placement ended, allowing the students to continue building on what they had learned. I was especially excited about this opportunity, as it allowed me to apply the skills I gained from my first project in a more practical and impactful way. It also gave me the chance to combine my passions for both education and healthcare in a meaningful setting.
Outside of my studies, I love to paint and am passionate about attending galleries and exhibitions. I enjoy spending time in nature and doing yoga. Also, I love to bake and find good places to eat with my family and friends.
If anyone has any interest in anything relating to me, my course or the research project, then please reach out 😊

Hi there! My name is Tea Stapar and I'm a third year Biological and Biomedical Sciences student in Trinity College Dublin, specialising in Biochemistry.
My research project is based on studying metabolomics of a chemotherapy drug called HAMLET/Alpha 1 using NMR spectroscopy. I'll be investigating whether this chemotherapeutic could be used to treat human osteosarcoma.
Looking forwards to the experience and connecting with new people!

Silvia Fernandez Mulero
Medical Director of Perioperative Medicine, Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi
I am Silvia Fernandez Mulero. I am the Medical Director of Perioperative Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the UAE’s #1 Hospital according to Newsweek Magazine 2023’s Ranking. There, I lead a phenomenal team of doctors, nurses and allied professions that serve our patients with the highest quality and most innovative approach so they have a safe and smooth surgery and recovery.
An Anaesthesiologist, Critical Care and Pain Doctor by training I have more than 20 years of experience in big and small hospitals and companies, both in the private and public sectors, in Spain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
I was born in Barcelona where I completed my medical training in Universidad de Barcelona; then I completed a major in Statistics for Medical Research and a PhD in Medicine. I am honoured and delighted to have been awarded the Women in Business Laidlaw Scholarship for the Executive MBA program at London Business School.
I am a very curious and analytical problem-solver that can lose track of time researching and collecting data about the challenge at hand, until I get an informed, efficient and elegant solution. I am straightforward, and I value simplicity and honesty in communication. I am attracted to smart and forthcoming people that challenge my ideas and speak their minds. I am a commonalities-finder, a born connector, and a believer in that there is no better way to achieve a bond than having a good conversation over food.
Because I have always loved to teach in any capacity (peers, junior doctors, patients and the public in general - ask my family...), I have held academic roles such Anaesthesia Residency Program Co-Director and Clinical Associate Professor of Anaesthesiology at Case Western Reserve University.
My goal is to contribute to a healthier society by modelling the so much needed healthcare system's paradigm shift, so it successfully sorts the funding, technological and human resources challenges that it is facing worldwide.
During the Executive MBA program I have found a passion and a vehicle to do just that: influencing the shift healthcare systems need through innovation. My partners and I will establish ourselves as regional experts in sourcing, nurturing and funding high-impact health-tech ventures combining our expertise and the collective strength of a savvy body of investors deeply rooted in healthcare in the AMENA region to shape the future of health.
Looking forward to connecting and growing together!

My project involved investigating the effects of methylphenidate on a Parkinson's disease model in Drosophila melanogaster. Broadly speaking, my academic interests include the molecular mechanisms of addiction, and how we can use biochemical and genetic techniques to investigate this.
I am an MMath Mathematics student at the University of St Andrews, focusing on Applied Maths and Statistics. I have long been passionate about Mathematics, History, and Languages, studying Russian alongside my Mathematics degree. I also care strongly about education, dedicating much of my time to tutoring different levels of Mathematics to various children and teens of different ages. Through Laidlaw, I have recognised that my key strengths of confidence, communication, and curiosity can be applied to leadership and that there is no archetypal leader.
