About Emma Noone
Hello everyone! My name is Emma and I am an undergraduate scholar studying for a BSc in Archaeology. My research project focuses on the human impact of climate change on the variability of the Baltic Sea ecosystem. I am focusing my research on the presence or lack of Foraminifera (Marine plankton) in baltic sea sediment cores to understand the effects changes in the climate have had on the Baltic Sea.

Week one research update
In week one of my research, we split the Baltic Sea core, took samples and began to look into the samples to see if there were any abundances of forams present in the core layers. The initial samples we took were 20g samples from 1cm wide sections.
Week two research update
Here is a graph of the XRF results from scanning core section 4/8 for any traces of Manganese. Manganese survives in anoxic conditions and thus corresponds to the anoxic layers within the core. These layers appear to have some forams present within them.
Benthic Foraminifera
Here are some images of the forams that I have been looking for within my research.

Here is an image of the 4th out of 8 1m sections of the core I am working on.
