Hi! 🧐 My name is Nathan, and I am a coming Junior at the University of Toronto (St. George Campus) majoring in Criminology, Public Policy, with a minor in Political Science. My research project focuses on Criminal Law and Domestic Abuse cases, investigating the Criminal Justice System's role in breaking the cycle of violence that exists in domestic abuse cases. Drop a message and I'd be more than happy to connect with you! ⚡️

Keah Sharma

Undergraduate Researcher, University of Toronto

Hi, I'm Keah (she/her)! I'm currently a student at the University of Toronto where I study political science, contemporary Asian studies, and literature and critical theory.

My research revolves around women in South Asian diasporic literature and poetry and how, through their analyses, one can deconstruct damaging meritocratic-centric ideas in Canada and contribute to a more sensitive and understanding public discourse regarding immigrant women.

Salma Ragheb

Undergraduate Researcher, University of Toronto

I'm an undergraduate student at the University of Toronto double majoring in Immunology and Visual Arts.

As for my job, I am currently a research student and lab assistant at the SickKids Research Institute (Peter Gilgan Centre for Research and Learning) in the David Kaplan Freda Miller Cancer & Stem Cell Lab in the Department of Neurosciences & Mental Health. I also sell prints of my art upon request.

For my Laidlaw research project, I joined the Iscove lab in the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to characterize the cell surface antigens on leukemic stem cells in a HOXB4-transgene-dependent leukemia model maintained in mice.

In the future, I am interested in working on research projects that combine neurobiology and immunology.

Aly Muhammad Sayani

Full-time student, University of Toronto

Hello there! My name is Aly, and I am a British undergraduate student at the University of Toronto, currently doing an International Affairs Specialist, with a Minor in Sustainability.

My research project is → Linking Political orientation and Environmentalism: An analysis of changing environmental attitudes and subsequent party support in Canada. In my project, I aim to analyze the changing link between environmental attitudes and party support/political orientation in Canada, using Canadian Election Studies data from 2015 and 2019, and comparing my results with results from a previous study which carried out similar analysis on data from the 2004 and 2006 elections. I also hope to inform my analysis with a discussion of provincial differences in these links, hoping to shine a light on possible avenues towards improving engagement with voters for provincial elections which may help Canada in its terrible track record on improving its environment.

Pearls Eddo

Law LLB, University of Leeds

Hi, my name is Pearls (She/Her); I am a second-year Law LLB student at Leeds.

***********************

My first-year research measured the impact of gamifying learning on improving the attainment score and content retention levels of ethnic minority and socio-economically disadvantaged students at Multi-Academy Trusts.

I co-founded the Leeds University branch of the 93% Club and acted as its Schools Outreach Officer for nearly two years. In recent years I have volunteered at my local Citizens Advice. I will be tutoring primary level English as part of the Laidlaw Foundation’s tutoring initiative with The Tutor Association.

This June, I will be embarking on a year-long placement as a Contract Management Intern at The Walt Disney Company.

Yusra Shafi

Research Assistant at WISH Lab, The University of Toronto, St. George

Hello! My name is Yusra, and I am a third-year Psychology student at the University of Toronto, St. George. I am passionate about mental health, especially in the disciplines of Education and Organisational Behaviour.

Schools and Universities do not only provide an academic education - they also serve as a premise for self-development and the formation of interpersonal connections. My research utilizes the concepts of Self-determination theory, and focuses on analyzing the biggest barriers to a 'positive' university experience, possible solutions that can be enacted, and how all these factors can influence student mental health.
