Student, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Hi, everyone! I'm a second-year student at MIT majoring in bioengineering and women/gender studies. I am a pre-med student, passionate about women's healthcare and accessibility. I am currently doing a research project on related to early endometriosis lesion formation at the Babraham Institute in Cambridge, UK.  Outside of the lab, I love fashion (even though I mainly wear sweatpants) and literature. I've been really into beading and embroidery this summer, and am currently reading Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. I have loved getting to know the Laidlaw cohort at MIT and Cambridge University, so please reach out with any questions or to say hi!

Chuqing Tang

Engineering Undergrad, Cambridge

I'm an Engineering undergraduate at the University of Cambridge with research interests in biomedical engineering, assistive technology, medical devices and systems engineering. I enjoy applying engineering principles to address real-world healthcare challenges through interdisciplinary research and rapid prototyping. My technical experience includes embedded systems (ESP32 and Arduino), electronics design, CAD and mechanical design (SolidWorks), 3D printing, sensor integration, mobile application development and human-centred engineering. I am particularly interested in combining hardware, software and control systems to develop intelligent biomedical technologies. In the long term, I hope to contribute to research in physiological monitoring, closed-loop medical systems, artificial organs and advanced biomedical devices, bridging engineering innovation with clinical applications.

Carys Williams

Medical Student, University of Cambridge

Hi, my name is Carys and I am going into my second year studying Medicine at the University of Cambridge. My interests mainly lie in public health, preventive medicine and infectious diseases, however I find all aspects of clinical and community healthcare interesting. I am interested in potential research into antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and other pressing global issues, and seeing how we can ensure access to appropriate healthcare systemically by reducing inequalities. This summer I am completing my Leadership in Action project with the Red Hen Project in Cambridge - a charity dedicated to helping children and families facing hardship. The charity hopes to expand to a deprived region in Cambridge and I will be evaluating the current services available for children, and where the charity can create the most long standing impact. The project is focussed on preventative measures to ensure children can live happier and healthier lives by reducing barriers they may face. This project is solidifying my current hope to work in paediatrics or public health.

Student, University of Cambridge

I am currently a History & French student at the University of Cambridge. I'm especially interested in human rights and international development, and I desire to work to make the world a more equitable place for all.
Lauren Landowski

Natural Sciences Student, University of Cambridge

Hi! I'm Lauren, a first year Biology student at Cambridge, with a particular interest in Biochemistry and Physiology. This has inspired my LiA, looking into how the Social Determinants of Health are being addressed locally in Cambridge by The Red Hen Project - a local charity working to support families experiencing hardship to raise happy, health, and independent children. Working alongside the charity has exposed me to the stark health inequalities that exist even within Cambridge, strengthening my passion for public health and inspiring me to pursue a career focused on improving outcomes for children, families, and communities.
Rosalind Howell

Laidlaw scholar and PBS student, University of Cambridge

My name is Rosalind and I'm a first year student in psychology at the University of Cambridge. I am particularly interested in the interection between physical and mental health and how psychoneurological processes can impact somatic functions. Another major interest of mine is the maintenance of mental health recovery, and how post-acute care in communities and systems can support the longevity of recovery and prevent relapse.
Leni Klöcker

Student, Cambridge University

I'm a first year at Cambridge studying Sociology, Anthropology and Political Science which means I am yet to settle on only one topic for my research project, Luckily this summer I will firstly be working with "Experience Cambridge" for my Leadership in Action placement, trying to make information more accessible to people experiencing homelessness in the Cambridge area. In the context of this experience I am especially interested in learning more about alternative, possibly non-hierarchical forms of leadership so if you're research project/LiA placmement is somehow related to this topic I'd love to hear more about it!
