I am a first year scholar and undergraduate student at the University of Leeds studying towards a BA in Politics and Sociology. My research aims to draw on the experiences of UoL students with a focal point on widening participation students in order to gain a deeper understanding of what inclusive learning spaces are and how they can be achieved. Outside of my research I really enjoy reading, cooking and baking, listening to music and spending time with my friends and family.

Nathaniel Beckett

Writer and Futurist, Freelance

I am a writer and futurist focussing on the geopolitical impact of political polarisation. I have a solid foundation in geopolitics, foresight, and national security strategy, gained through a Master's degree in International Relations from King's College London and experience in research and convening roles. I currently serve as a convenor of the Next Generation Foresight Practitioner (NGFP) Peace & Security Hub at the School of International Futures. In this role, I bring together a global network of strategic foresight practitioners working on conflict resolution and peacebuilding. I also lead a Working Group which explores the impact of political polarisation on peace and security globally. Through advocacy, project collaboration, and policy paper co-authoring, we aim to contribute to a more peaceful global future. I completed my Laidlaw Scholarship at the University of Leeds where I studied Ancient History and Philosophy. My research project was on what impact the UK's membership of the EU has had on the UK's foreign and defence policy. I'm an accomplished participant in leadership training programs like the Laidlaw Scholarship and Mentora Youth Changemaker Fellowship.

Hello there! I am a Laidlaw Undergraduate Scholar studying Robotics and Mechatronics in the University of Leeds. My research topic is about developing a careers application for physics students to help them explore the range of careers and opportunities open to them from their course. I've been elected the Director of STEM for Women in Leadership Society. I'm also interested in robotics, coding, sustainability and biomimetics.

Student, University of Leeds

I'm a passionate software developer and video game creator. I've been programming since the age of 12 and have loved (mostly) every minute of it. While studying I also run the Computing Society at the University of Leeds. So far its been a fantastic way to connect my fellow Computer Science students to each other, as well as connecting them to employers and organisations. Outside of computing I have a passion for Music and Sports. I love playing the piano, and during my time at university I decided to take up Karate. I'm a fun, social person who's had a variety of experience working in different organisations, including the Arts, Youth programmes and Technology. I'm a confident public speaker, and I always look to bring out the best in others. I'm eager to continue my studies at university and I look forward to what lies beyond.

I'm a microbiology graduate interested in healthcare, conservation and medicine. My first year research project looked at soft corals and the shifts in their communities due to climate change across the Indo-Pacific. For my LIA I got to travel to remote Fiji with ThinkPacific were I discovered my love for community engagement and saw an entire new culture. Apart from academic interests I love cooking, going to the gym, doing art and learning :)

Studies Theoretical Physics at the University of Leeds, currently on a year in industry at Raspberry Pi as part of the Hardware Engineering team. During my research period, I worked with academics within my department to investigate "Belonging and Engagement in a Successful Transition to University", with a particular focus on how students with less typical entry routes to higher education experience belonging. I'm always intruiged by different ways to apply the physics and mathematics from my course, with a particular interest in quantum physics, fluid dynamics and computational physics. In my free time I enjoy playing tennis, tinkering with technology, and flying light aircraft.

I study Mechatronics and Robotics at the University of Leeds. At the moment, I am advancing my skills in programming. I have lots of experience in electronics through hobby projects and working as part of a team for the Leeds robot fighting league. My research project is about AI for service robots.

I am a graduate of the Theatre & Performance BA programme at the University of Leeds. My research project looked at the interaction between parkour and the exploration of the city'. I also looked briefly at the relationship between parkour and performance in popular media (including TV, film and theatre). I've recently completed my 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching Parkour/Freerunning, and I plan to use it to deliver free parkour lessons to young people in disadvantaged areas of Leeds.

Shauryya Vira

Student , Durham University

I am 19 years old and a 2nd-year student, reading Economics at Durham University. I’m from India, with British descent, and completed my schooling in New Delhi. English is my natural language; I am also fluent in Hindi and can understand French. I am deeply interested in football and have been playing at school and amateur league levels for over a decade. Watching and supporting club and international football is a passion. Despite my main degree subject being Economics, I find that I continue to be fascinated by psychology (which I may pursue further) and in sociological fields of work. My research is based on whether coding and broader digital literacy can help bridge the socio-economic divide for underprivileged students. My research involves taking two schools as case studies of differing economic strata in the Western Indian city of Udaipur. I will be conducting primary research through an ethnographic study and through conducting interviews, alongside secondary data analysis. I believe that, due to the ever-increasing global shift to greater levels of technology and artificial intelligence, a core learning of coding is important. This aspect has the potential to enhance economic opportunities for otherwise disadvantaged sections of the population. There is a gap in academic literature on this topic, and available research is limited. Therefore, I hope that my work will further the understanding of the linkages between Technology Education for All and bridging the socio-economic divide. I hope to further generalize the research as a policy framework which can be followed by schools and governments.

Student, Saint Andrews University

I'm a Scottish mathematician studying at St. Andrews University. I am inquisitive by nature and thus have split my degree into pure and applied maths modules to reflect this, in hopes to deepen my understanding of logic and reasoning, while also staying in touch with the reality. I especially enjoy pure mathematics which is useful in the real world, such as fractal geometry and number theory. In my spare time I like to do martial arts, having done Judo for several years and recently joined Ju Jitsu. I also enjoy reading Science fiction, playing piano, and learning more about politics, science & economics.
