About Liv Powell

I studied BA (Hons) International History and Politics at the University of Leeds, graduating in July 2019, and then stayed at the University of Leeds to undertake an MA in Modern History. Throughout my time at university, my research has primarily focused on Soviet foreign policy in Southeast Asia during the 20th century. I have also held many job roles and volunteered frequently throughout my degrees; more detail on these can be found on my LinkedIn profile - https://www.linkedin.com/in/livpowell/. I undertook the research aspect of my Laidlaw Scholarship, "Object Trajectories - Archives, Objects, Museums in the Phillips of Hitchin Archive", between Summer 2017 and Summer 2018. My research focused on locating and examining primary sources related to the business exchanges between Phillips and notable museums and people. These included the Victoria and Albert Museum, the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art, George Bernard Shaw, and the Ford family. I also aided with the essential conservation efforts to preserve key document, such as photograph albums and letters. The research I produced was then collated into two exhibitions, ‘SOLD! The Great British Antiques Story’ at the Bowes Museum’ at the Bowes Museum, 26/01/2019-06/05/2019, and ‘Antique Dealers: Buying, Selling and Collecting’ at the Stanley and Audrey Burton Gallery, 04/03/2019-25/05/2019.
