Martha graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 2024 with a First Class Honours in Law and Political Science. Her Summer 1 research project concerned Russian Military Aggression towards Ukraine.
She is passionate about public speaking and debating, which informed her Leadership in Action Project working with the English-Speaking Union (ESU) in London. She also won the 2024 European Universities Debating Championships, becoming the first Irish woman to ever do so.
Georgetown University joined the Laidlaw Undergraduate Research and Leadership Scholarship Programme as a partner institution in Fall 2021. The Georgetown University Center for Research and Fellowships announced the university's first Laidlaw Scholars cohort in April 2022.

My main research area is political philosophy; my research interests in particular are in how human rights can be used as an approach to morality, and how we should consider and address 'structural injustices' in society. I also have interests in democratic theory, and heterodox approaches to economics.

I am a fourth year student in Middle Eastern, Jewish and Islamic Civilizations in Trinity College Dublin. My research focuses on the impact of Covid-19 on the arrival to Europe of Syrian and Palestinian refugees from Lebanon. I'm an Erasmus Mundus MA in Women's and Gender Studies (GEMMA) student in Central European University, Vienna and the Universidad de Granada. I'm a BA (Hons) European Studies graduate, Gold Medallist, and Laidlaw Scholar (2022-23) at Trinity College Dublin.
My feminist historical research focuses on the intersection of motherhood, public health, and restorative justice in (post)colonial, Catholic contexts, with an emphasis on Ireland.
My Laidlaw research (2022) consisted of a comparative study of experiences of and discourses around gender-based violence in the Irish and Spanish Civil Wars (1922-23 and 1936-39 respectively). For my LiA (2023) I worked with Women Rights Initiative (WORI), a grassroots women's rights NGO in Uganda, on resource mobilisation and social enterprise business planning.
Currently studying History at Undergraduate level at Trinity College Dublin. Outside of college, I spend my time with music and ballet, catching up on reading ‘old classics’, some amateur photography, and trying to gain a little bit of an understanding of biology and medicine.
For the duration of this programme, my research aims to prove a connection between environmental “end time” scenarios and their instrumentalization for the development of social movements. Through a historical perspective, I first want to identify patterns and then in a second step relate them back to universal reasons that make people susceptible to “political agitation”. Finally, I plan to develop recommendations for political education that help promote critical thinking in the context of political and social movements.
