There will be opportunity to network with other scholars and to share by presenting and
learn from others at the Laidlaw conference in Toronto. There’s also opportunities to
publish and present at an undergraduate research conference. There are also other
opportunities to continue with research whether it is by supporting faculty research or
conducting independent research. There are resources and funding opportunities
available and laid out for both Georgetown-affiliated and non-affiliated awards. The
video also mentioned ways to improve networking, develop quality relationships
with faculty or with others and be open to attending events such as presentations,
conferences and panels.

Research can enhance my experiences by deepening my understanding of whatever
topic that I am pursuing. It will also require me to think critically, analyze information,
and deduce logical conclusions as well as evaluate the credibility and validity of sources
and results of experiments conducted. This would develop my critical thinking skills.
Research can also strengthen my oral and written communication skills—most times as
we are conducting research, we have to deliver and communicate our results and
findings to our colleagues whether through writing or speaking. Research provides
opportunities to present at conferences and to write up papers to publish, providing
ground to improve upon. Doing research can also help to build connections with others.
Whether it is striking up a conversation with similar interest as us or continuing to invest
in the relationship with those that we are conducting research with, it can help us to
connect and maintain a long-lasting passion-driven relationships. Lastly, research has a
big impact on contributing to the field of knowledge that is built upon so many
researchers that came before us. It is becoming part of the community that works to
follow after their passions and make a positive impact on their chosen fields.
