Week 6:

What went well?

During my week working with the Rural Schools Collaborative, several aspects went well. I successfully completed all the social media materials required for the upcoming #ruralcollegeequity campaign, which is set to take place in the first week of August. Although I initially struggled with creating graphics, one of my team members kindly offered their assistance, allowing me to overcome the challenges. Additionally, I learned to adapt the captions to comply with the character limit on Twitter. Throughout the six-weeks, the team was exceptionally welcoming and invited me to continue working with them in a freelance capacity.

What could have been done differently?

Looking back, there are a few areas where things could have been done differently. I could have improved my time management skills when it came to creating graphics, ensuring a smoother process. Moreover, pre-planning and considering the Twitter character limit from the outset would have enabled me to craft more concise captions, avoiding unnecessary revisions later on.

What did I learn about myself while working with others?

Working with others provided valuable insights about myself. I discovered that I am not hesitant to seek help when facing challenges and that collaboration and teamwork can significantly improve outcomes. Furthermore, I realized that I genuinely enjoy working in a team environment and appreciate the support and camaraderie it fosters.

What did I learn about leadership?

It taught me that effective leadership involves leveraging the strengths and expertise of team members to achieve shared goals. Witnessing the value of supportive leadership, which encourages collaboration and provides opportunities for personal and professional growth, reinforced the importance of this approach.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

Looking ahead, I am keen to develop my graphic design skills further. Strengthening my proficiency in creating social media materials will enhance efficiency and productivity. Additionally, I aspire to deepen my understanding of leadership principles and explore different leadership styles. This will enable me to expand my leadership capabilities and become a more effective leader in future endeavors.
