Research '25 – Investigating Biosourced Polymers for Use in Laundry Detergents

Thrilled to have the opportunity to work in the lab with Dr. Clare S. Mahon and her chemistry group (https://mahongroup.co.uk) this summer as part of the Laidlaw Scholars program at Durham University!

My project involves investigating polymers derived from biomass and assessing their performance in laundry detergents, in comparison with current industry materials sourced from petroleum. By altering the structure of polymers already proposed by the Mahon Group and consulting with Procter & Gamble, the project hopes to reduce the environmental impact of existing laundry detergent formulations while maintaining or improving their effectiveness.

Attached is the research proposal that I submitted to the Laidlaw Scholars program as part of my application to join the 2025 cohort at Durham University.

Investigating Substitutions on Organically-Derived Polymers for Use in Laundry Detergents

Citations of the Mahon Group's existing work are included in the references for the proposal.
