Project

The extent to which laws and policies are used to regulate the use of animals in biological research in the Gulf states and the North Africa is currently unknown. These policies are important for upholding animal welfare in high-quality research.
This project will involve research into the current laws that exist on this topic and to what extent they are successfully applied. This will include an extensive review of legislation, policies, and the current ethical processes that exist across the countries in the region. This will be in the context of further education to develop these policies sustainably.

I would like to thank Matt Penhaligon and Rebecca Shaw, along with the rest of the University of Leeds central team, for the opportunity to participate in this scholarship. Finally, I would like to thank both my supervisors Prof Dave Lewis and Dr Isra Al-Banaa for their unwavering support and supervision in the work.
