Pre-project Laidlaw Programme Introduction
The hard work continues! After exam season has finished my Laidlaw Scholarship has gained traction from going to the Leeds Induction event in which I met the other scholars from my cohort as well as hearing inspiring accounts from previous scholars and how the research that they produced during their first year in the programme opened opportunities for them to continue their work later.
I also participated in two residentials, one at Weetwood Hall in Leeds, in which I developed my skills as a leader throughout the two-day course with the leadership and project management sessions, with careful consideration given to my leadership attributes and how they interact with others through my Quintax profile. While also thinking about how to be more adaptable, confident in the face of adversity and how to build my skills in a more efficient manner.
The other residential I participated in was at Selside in the Yorkshire Dales, which used experience-based learning in challenging environments of caving and gill scrambling to facilitate communication, teamwork and leadership whilst encouraging me to reflect on my actions in the face of adversity.
Furthermore, I attended the Global Induction with the rest of the Laidlaw cohort in which I was able to practice networking and meet incredible people!
So far it has been a busy but rewarding couple of weeks!
