Week 3 LiA Reflection
First meeting with volunteers
Commencing the third week of our leadership-in-action journey, we had the first online meeting with our volunteers to share about Pacto con la Tierra – the project we are working on at Huerto Roma Verde (HRV), as well as the deliverables we will be working on so that we can delegate tasks to the volunteers. It was certainly a pleasure to work with the enthusiastic volunteers. I enjoyed meeting them all and I looked forward to working with them.
Visiting Rennueva
The visit to Rennueva this week was inspiring. I learned about how the organisation collects a vast range of plastic waste and reuses it for various purposes through grinding, compression, and other methods. We also explored products made from recycled materials, such as photo frames, pet food containers, and recycled paper. This not only encourages me to rethink the possibilities of reusing materials to give them a second life, but also motivates me to develop the habit of recycling, creating impactful changes through seemingly trivial actions.
Designing graphics for 10Rs posters
We had a fruitful meeting with Piero and Toni this week, in which we received valuable feedback on our previous designs on the 10Rs posters. To refine our designs, our design objective this week was to draw graphics more specific to Mexican culture and HRV’s context. I was part of the design team and I focused on incorporating the axolotl – a representative species here in Mexico into the designs. We also had a volunteer working with us this week on designing, and I enjoyed engaging in the design process throughout.
Time flew, and this week marked the mid-point of our journey. I look forward to embarking on the second half of the program to explore new possibilities and overcome new challenges ahead.
