When I am not working, I have picked up quite a few hobbies and things to keep me occupied around New York. Music has become a real passion of mine. If I’m feeling a bit lethargic, I like to stay in my room and play my guitar. Or if I’m feeling extra sociable, I book a spot to program one of the radio shows at Columbia’s student run radio station. I only recently joined the radio station and this summer I have really been able to explore different types of programming and music. The photo I attached to this post is a picture of my point of view as I programmed the Louis Armstrong Birthday Broadcast from 3:00 am to 6:00 am!
I would never have described myself as a very ‘musical’ person but I think I definitely gleaned a new side of myself during this experience.
I also started volunteering with Columbia’s Housing Equity project, a student-led group that provides food, water, and other resources to the unhoused population around the Morningside Heights area. It was great to meet new people during this experience and also do something that benefits people in my community!
