My LiA project focused on art-activism. I first worked with a gallery in New York that focused on uplifting artists of marginalized identities and that hosted exhibition fundraisers to raise money to support abortion rights. My first week mainly consisted of behind-the-scenes tasks to assist the gallerist and curator in getting ready for the exhibition. I spent my time painting and cleaning pedestals for statues, cataloging and taking inventory, cleaning whiteboards, and taking measurements to position the paintings properly. As I was in the background working on the tasks, I got to observe the curator interacting with other artists and got to hear about their processes of making their works, as well as the importance their works hold for them.
