I am originally from Australia, which as most of you would know has been very hard hit by the climate crisis. Every summer since I can remember, has been filled with bushfire emergencies, and warnings about the dams running out of water. However, what is most apparent is that the issue of climate change has tragically become so politicized and divisive that little progress has been made at a local or national level.

To try and breakthrough this deadlock I spent my last summer researching climate change communications in regional areas and found that traditional methods and campaign strategies which ostracized and demonized mining communities were really at odds with what the psychology was telling us about persuasive messaging.

To take action on this issue I have decided to make my own short video campaign to tackle climate inaction in remote and regional communities in Australia and I strongly believe that with this new, inclusive, and innovative approach real and lasting change could be made. To achieve the most impact this video would need to be shared on local TV and radio networks, and I would love to be able to work with talented local videographers but I don't currently have the budget to do this. I have reached out to a few philanthropic organizations in the climate advocacy area, but I was wondering if anyone might have any leads and where I could look to get a small grant to make my vision a reality.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure if you are still looking for people Charlie, but if you are definitely try emailing some local TV and radio stations directly and put out a call on LinkedIn! The worst that people can say is no. If you need a videographer, you could always try collaborating with film students and use a small amount of your research stipend to pay them. You don't always need a professional to film a video, it is likely that there are already a load of amazing student videographers on your doorstep :)

Best of luck with your project, I'm excited to see how it goes!
