For our Leadership Quote this week, we delve into the ethos of a woman who has shaped the European Union's approach to digital fairness and competition, Margrethe Vestager.

Margrethe Vestager: "Do not be afraid of people with very different views than you. See it as an opportunity to expand your thinking."

Leadership Journey and Achievements

Born on April 13, 1968, in Glostrup, Denmark, Margrethe Vestager's journey to becoming one of the most influential figures in European politics is marked by her commitment to public service and unyielding dedication to justice and equity. Her academic background, with a degree in Economics from the University of Copenhagen, laid the foundation for her career in politics, where she has served in various capacities, including as Danish Minister for Economic Affairs and the Interior and as the Political Leader of the Social Liberal Party.

In 2014, Vestager took on the role of Commissioner for Competition at the European Commission, a position she utilized to champion fair competition and take landmark actions against tech giants for antitrust violations. Her commitment to creating a "Europe Fit for the Digital Age" led to her current role as the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission in 2019. In this capacity, Vestager has been pivotal in steering EU policies towards digital taxation, data strategy, and artificial intelligence, and ensuring that the digital and tech landscapes are competitive and fair.

Beyond her economic and digital policy initiatives, Vestager is a vocal advocate for gender equality in politics and the corporate world. She has consistently pushed for greater female representation in leadership positions, aiming to break down barriers and create more inclusive environments.

Embracing Diverse Perspectives

Margrethe Vestager's words remind us of the power of embracing differing opinions. It's a call to see the variety of perspectives not as obstacles but as opportunities to broaden our minds and enrich our decisions. Let's take this advice to heart, inviting diverse views into our conversations and allowing them to challenge and inspire us. Here's to growing through openness and building a world of more inclusive and innovative leadership.
