I completed my Summer 1 research as part of the 2026 cohort of Laidlaw scholars at Trinity College Dublin, where I study Medicine. We examined the effects of inhibiting a client protein called heat-shock protein 90, both in cell culture models and in murine brain slices. Along the way, we decided to analyse a combination approach using CBD and a HSP90 inhibitor to see if these agents could potentiate each other.
Our findings provide preliminary evidence that HSP90, and particularly HSP90β, may represent a dual therapeutic target in GBM, with potential to influence both tumour viability and tumour-associated seizure activity. Further validation is required to establish efficacy and therapeutic relevance. Feel free to reach out with any queries!
