Open Sesame: Can We Make a Protein Cage Open at the Right Time?

Protein nanocages can protect molecular cargo, but controlling its release remains a challenge. This project explores whether an encapsulin nanocage can be engineered with the pH-sensitive peptide GALA to respond to acidic conditions and enable controlled cargo release, using GFP as a model cargo.
