With a passion for IT and finance, I bring over five years of consulting experience where I’ve led, mentored, and trained diverse teams on large-scale projects in risk advisory, ITGC, and financial systems. At Deloitte, I became the youngest senior consultant, managing complex international projects while actively mentoring junior consultants. I am deeply committed to developing others, empowering my team members to take ownership of their growth, and creating a collaborative environment that fosters excellence. Beyond my professional role, I am passionate about gender equality and giving back to my community. As an active mentor with the Kav Mashve foundation, I train and guide young Arab women, helping them overcome barriers in the Israeli labor market and secure positions in leading firms. Hello! My name is Batool and I am a final year Arts and Sciences at UCL. I take classes on environmental sciences, political science and education. For my summer research project, I co-produced a policy brief with student recommendations for sustainable futures in higher education which is addressed to policy makers in universities in the UK.  For my Leadership-in-Action project, I am conducting a similar research project with WWF-Pakistan. I am organising participatory workshops with university students from Lahore and plan to use this research for my undergraduate dissertation. At UCL I was the President of the UCL Sign Language Society where I led a team of 9 other undergraduate students to organise sign language classes and events to raise awareness of deafness for a society which has over 200 student members. I am currently the Vice President of the Ahlulbayt Islamic Society committee, organising charity campaigns and faith-based awareness events on taking action for global issues. 

Currently studying Materials Science at Imperial College.  I have a strong passion for helping my local community in Bangladesh. While I may have not been born or raised there, I think this is a really good opportunity to understand what vulenerable communities face and what I can do to support them.

Hi! I'm Elena, a pre-med student-athlete at Brown University studying Chemistry and Literary Arts! I love deep talks, working out, and thrill-seeking. I am so excited to be a part of the Laidlaw Scholars Network!  This summer, I am working on data extraction for a systematic review of themes relevant to mental health in Filipino communities. In collaboration with Dr. Melissa Palma, I will also develop an independent study project that identifies key shared beliefs among Filipino-American communities, notably immigrants, that correlate with reluctance against receiving preventative medical treatment.  I'd love to connect if you are looking into similar topics or if you'd like to geek out about research in general! 

Hi! My name is Ethan McDowell, and I am a rising Senior at Brown University concentrating in Computer Science and Visual Art. I love to make art, with a focus in sculpture, but in my free time, I've been painting and drawing to prepare for my upper-level studios this fall! I'm in love with the outdoors, and I'm a plant dad at heart. My current research is focused on an app development project for the Brown Arts Institute (BAI) where we are trying to streamline scheduling and administrative tasks for BAI workers/getting them connected with other BAI opportunities!

Hello! I am Mairéad, a PPE student at Durham University. I am really interested in social justice and how human rights are upheld/fail to be upheld. I have aspirations to work in the international human rights sector. I am excited to hear about other people's research and looking forward to being part of the 2024 cohort of research and leadership scholars!  Outside of academics, I'm quite involved in some charity and activist work, particularly around the protection of refugee rights. I'm also big into netball and run my college's team!
