My name is Kimberly Gan, and I study Medical Innovation and Enterprise at UCL. For my summer Laidlaw Scholarship research project, I explored the development of orodispersible films designed to improve the treatment of chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting in children. Based at the UCL School of Pharmacy and in collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London, my project combined hands on laboratory work with direct patient engagement.
Hi everyone, I'm Jasmine, and I'm studying BA Geography at LSE. I'd like to consider myself as an at least partially competent social scientist, but my particular interests are in modern history, gender, and urban studies. I'll happily waffle on about any of those things, and I'm always excited to meet people with shared interests. Outside of academics, I enjoy ballet, marvel, disney music and playing with my dog.
I wanted to become a Laidlaw scholar because I enjoy doing research, and I wanted to see if I could take my burgeoning skills outside of university to make a difference (an utter cliché, I know). I'm hoping to do that this summer with my LiA working for Variety, a UK-based charity that looks to support children with disabilities from disadvantaged backgrounds. I will be running a research project investigating where there are gaps in the capacity of these children to access assistive technology, and what we can do about it. Hi! My name is Anagha (pronounced uh-nuh-guh) and I am an undergraduate at Barnard College in the Class of 2027. I am majoring in Sociology as a pre-medical student; I hope to pursue an MD-PhD in Medical Anthropology.
My research this summer connects my academic interests in medical sociology and queer studies. Through exploring diverse forms of gender affirming care, I hope to understand how medical and spiritual healers help individuals transition.

Hi! My name is Evalyn Lee, and I am in my fourth year at Georgetown University. I am studying English, Art History, and French!
My research focuses on the 18th-century poet, Elizabeth Singer Rowe. Despite the limited scholarship on the poet, Rowe was an influential political writer who made significant contributions to literary history, including the development of the novel. Through my research, I hope to add to the scholarship that highlights the work of early modern women writers.
For my Leadership-in-Action project, I will be partnering with make_sense and Les Jardins d'Haïti, an intergenerational third-space for seniors, in Marseille, France.

I'm Mahnoor, a student at the University of Oxford specialising in human and environmental geography. My interest lies primarily in climate justice, and I have been working in the UK climate-change sector since 2021 on intersectional youth inclusion, just transition, green jobs, the energy sector, climate and environmental policy, and community-led action and co-creation. Through this work, I’ve collaborated with a wide range of organisations like the UN, the UK Government, think tanks, NGOs, philanthropic organisations, and youth-led charities. Currently, I am a trustee at the OVO Foundation, where I help deliver climate-justice grants. I also freelance as a workshop facilitator, consultant, and speaker on the topics above.
My first-year project explored the demand- and supply-side restrictions to extracurricular provisions in Oxford, and is now published in Taylor and Francis.
I am in Cairo, Egypt, for my LIA at the moment where I'm working with Megawra, an architectural and built environment collective specialising in urban regeneration, heritage conservation and community co-production in Historic Cairo.

As someone who is passionate about sustainable energy and the preservation of our environment, my research project centres on how to make decarbonisation solutions economically viable - so that clean energy can be attained by all.
I believe that money should never be a restriction - especially towards climate action, so I aim for my research to make decarbonisation a feasible target for everyone!
My hobbies include all things outdoors - hiking, travelling and climbing to mention a few - as well as crafty activities such as crochet and knitting!
I would like my Leadership in Action project to focus on my hobbies - using craft activities to help rebuild and give independence to a local community abroad, with an emphasis on sustainability. Perhaps using locally sourced material to produce goods which can be sold to help with living costs?

I'm a third-year Computer Science student at the University of Toronto, specializing in Computer Vision. My passion lies at the intersection of hardware and software solutions—aiming to build meaningful, impactful projects.
Previously, I developed assistive technologies to support visually impaired students, making STEM education more inclusive and accessible. This summer, I'm working on a forensic science research project that involves optical dyeing using a multi-spectral LED array to enhance sperm cell identification in forensic samples.
The tinkerer inside me loves messing around with robotics and tech, opening up random gadgets and making my own gizmos. Outside of technology, I enjoy cooking and exploring restaurants, always drawing inspiration for my next creation.

I'm passionate about leveraging digital policy and journalism to democratize access to information. This past summer, as a Laidlaw Scholar for Research & Leadership and with Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy, I researched AI Policy, Music Streaming, & Cultural Labor in the EU & UK, culminating in presentations at the Oxford Rothermere American Institute, the Laidlaw Scholars Global Conference, and a forthcoming publication on Taylor & Francis. Previously, at the Information Technology & Innovation Foundation, the world's leading think tank in science & technology policy, I investigated the use of AI in election information dissemination for minority language voters in the US. Having grown up in both Hong Kong and Canada, I also strongly believe in the importance of collaboration across geographical borders & cultures, and would love to chat—both about global information access and general cultural experiences! Hi! I’m Zach — a fifth-year medical student at Imperial College London, and an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at the Royal Brompton Hospital, one of the world’s leading cardiothoracic centres. My work sits at the intersection of critical care medicine, health-services evaluation, and data-driven translational science.
Through my Laidlaw project, EQUALISE, I built geospatial and temporal analyses of national ECMO referrals to investigate equity of access to extracorporeal life support across the UK — working alongside clinicians, NHS England commissioners, and regional networks to turn data into evidence that shapes service planning. The analytical pipelines were subsequently adopted by the National ECLS Service Evaluation.
For my Leadership-in-Action project, I’m working as a Clinical & Scientific Fellow with the Africa Clinical Research Network (ACRN), helping design a federated, African-led real-world evidence platform.
Back in the lab, my current research investigates gas-phase metabolomic signatures during cardiopulmonary bypass, working toward novel non-invasive diagnostics.
