  • One thing you've learned this week

These two weeks have been a lot of shifting from work responsibilities to a heavy Laidlaw literature review period. I've been reviewing a lot of SCOTUS and NLRB Independent Contractor vs Employer designation rulings as well as articles on the matter from legal journalists, law firms, and unions. The biggest thing I've learned is that there is so much discussion around this topic right now in legal circles because online gig work is such an unprecedented field that is not regulated yet. Thus, by focusing the project around these developments, it hits the cutting edge of this research, which is not certain to anyone—not the gig work companies, organized labor groups, or legislators.

  • A challenge you've faced, and how you plan to overcome that challenge

It has been difficult to find large swaths of deep-work time to do Laidlaw research recently due to the in-flux nature of my workplace, but I have been able to reclaim more of my time post-work to focus on Laidlaw this month. I plan to continue setting clear boundaries regarding work-life/work-research boundaries.

  • One goal you've set for yourself for the week

I intend to finish my literature review sometime next week in order to begin planning and developing my deliverables, which will include a law review paper as well as a research poster.
