Week 3:
I work with an NGO called 'Nidaria' who collect food waste and turn it into animal feed. My partner, Cyrus, and I met up with the founder of Nidaria, Rodrigo, and someone who works closely with the organisation, Pancho, also. It was inspiring to meet Rodrigo and understand his motivation behind setting up Nidaria 2 and a half years ago, as well as the importance of proper waste management and the value of food waste by Pancho. Cyrus and I worked together to brainstorm ideas about the project and what we could do to help the organisation.
One of the highlights of this week would have to be the dinner with the makesense. We went to a nice Mexican restaurant, had really yummy food and amazing conversations.
The main highlight, however, would be our cultural day. We went to a cafe, where I had the best hot chocolate of my life. Also, we went to the Chocolate museum, where we learnt about the history of chocolate. Following this, we went to a lovely cafe for lunch. The food was amazing, the scenery was stunning and we were serenaded by a Mariachi band.
Week 4:
This week has been very busy and full-on. Cyrus and I had to consolidate our project and present it to Rodrigo and Pancho, which they were very pleased with upon hearing. I got to tour the headquarters of Huerto Roma Verde - a very green haven in the middle of the city. The sheds are made out of tetrapacks, all the water from the toilet goes into the sewer, they have loads of animals, a library, a place to meditate, recycling sheds and more! It has quickly become one of my favourite places here in Mexico City.
We have been busy with making material for future projects, preparing for meetings and figuring out the logistics for events we are planning on hosting. We have also contacted our volunteers and have begun to lead them through their project, namely through our first meeting together where we briefed them about the project and allocated tasks out.
I am very excited to see this project unfold. Hopefully, our work will help spread the word about Nidaria and inform at least the people in La Roma about good waste management practices.
