Weekly Log Questions

What went well?

  • I think overall, the other volunteers and I achieved high-quality mapping and mapping validation in our projects. Also, some those projects are now completely finished!

What could have been done differently?

  • I could have contacted my supervisor and let him know about my progress. I feel like as time went on and I became more comfortable on the MissingMaps projects, I started to reach out to my supervisor less.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

  • I learned that I enjoy working in the presence of others. For example, some volunteers held a zoom call where we collectively worked on different tasks on the same project. I found this to be the most enjoyable since we were able to directly communicate with each other and chat.

What did I learn about leadership?

  • One thing I learned is entrusting the mappers on the team and believing in their capabilities. For example, I trust the other volunteers to follow the directions posted for each task and map accordingly. As a result, I do not unnecessarily look over their work and instead spend that time on what is actually important.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

  • Moving forward, I plan to continue in my efforts to help on the MissingMaps projects, even if the time dedicated will be minimal.
