Weekly Log Questions

What went well?

  • I had requested a validator to check over my work and they got back to me saying that there is no issue with my mapping in that particular task. As a result of not needing to spend time fixing my mistakes, I had more free time to work on other tasks.

What could have been done differently?

  • One thing I could have done differently is scheduling breaks in-between tasks. For my LiA, I have the flexibility to set my own work hours and because of that, I usually end up working on a task for hours without taking a break.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

  • I realized that I feel more motivated when I see others feel passionate and motivated to do work as well. It also makes the work more enjoyable for me as the other volunteers and I have a shared experience working on projects that we find to be important and meaningful

What did I learn about leadership?

  • I learned that a part of leadership is about having patience. When I comment on a task someone did or reach out to other volunteers, I have to remember that these people are busy with their own lives and are volunteering in their free time. As such, I have to remind myself that they can take weeks to reply which is perfectly fine.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

  • I believe I need to focus more on reading the forums and guides that other validators have made. Usually, I try to learn everything through experience and working on my own but I believe it may save me time in the future when mapping/validating by learning from others' expertise.
