Weekly Log Questions
What went well?
- I was able to complete an entire section of the mapping project for the Baghlan District in Afghanistan. Usually, these mapping projects take place over a large section of land. I have rarely been able to complete an entire mapping task as after some time passes, the mapping program automatically reassigns the project to other mappers.
What could have been done differently?
- Instead of working on different tasks within the same project, I believe I should take on tasks from projects that take place in different countries. This is because each region has its own mapping rules which would allow me to expand on my knowledge as a mapper/validator.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
- I learned that I value the input and perspectives of others. A couple of times I have requested others to check my work in case I made an error. Moreover, since these maps will be used for actual emergency planning, I feel that I need to be very careful in my mapping.
What did I learn about leadership?
- I learned that being in a leadership position also means that you are adaptable and flexible to change. For example, even if I start my day with certain goals and tasks in mind, I need to be flexible and change my schedule if more high-priority projects appear.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
- In the next week, I want to start branching out and working on mapping in regions that I have no worked in. Hopefully, when I am comfortable mapping in them, I can start validating.
