This week was my final week at Councilmember Tammy Kim's office. In this final push, I completed a memo on creating a business concierge for the Councilmember and submitted my deliverables for review to the councilmember's Chief of Staff. Furthermore, I set up the members of my team with other intern leads who will continue their work in the Councilwoman's office. This ensured that my team members would be able to take the skills they learned working on this project and apply them to other important, community-oriented projects that are ongoing in the Councilmember's office.
I am very proud of the work I have done and the deliverables my team and I were able to create. I am currently scheduled to have a meeting with our city manager and city clerk in the near future, and I hope that these deliverables will be able to help the residents of Irvine. This project allowed me to combine my passion for public service with my field of study, economics, as well as my desire to increase the accessibility of resources for traditionally marginalized groups of people.
Furthermore, I am incredibly grateful that I was able to complete a Leadership in Action project despite having gotten an ACL reconstruction surgery at the beginning of the summer. Completing this project while balancing my recovery has taught me so much about time management, listening to my body, and prioritizing my health and wellness. This has been a challenge for me in the past as I tend to get very devoted to my work and don't take the time to pause before jumping into the next project. My knee forced me to remember my needs and has taught me the importance of a work-life balance. Ultimately, this helped me be a more effective and efficient member of my team by allowing me to perform at my best during working hours.
I loved my experience at City Hall and have grown so much as a leader and a public servant throughout this project. I have gained relationships with some of the most passionate, kind, and thoughtful people I have ever met and will continue to stay in touch with them even after returning to Washington DC. This summer has pushed me to try new things and step outside my comfort zone, taking on jobs and tasks I had never tried such as managing the Councilmember's blog and creating social media content. My hope for the future is that I will be able to continue working in a dynamic, welcoming environment like the Councilmember's office.
