Entering this week having just finished an intense period of exams was a whirlwind of emotions: I was feeling nervous about starting a new venture, homesick for my family and friends , but also very excited to begin an exciting new chapter.

My worries have dissipated! Everyone has been so lovely, friendly and thoughtful. My passion for making a difference in my community has been renewed and reinvigorated as I spend more time with like-minded individuals. I have particularly enjoyed the broad discussions with my research group, and getting to do research about an issue that I am passionate about.

I am looking forward to seeing where this summer leads me. Not just in terms of the research itself, but carrying the lessons I learn here into my future endeavours. I feel that I have learnt a lot already, so I feel very optimistic about the future with Laidlaw.

Ellen, I am so pleased week 1 was a positive and affirming experience. I hope the research and your fellow scholars continue to bring you joy and inspiration as the summer continues!
