If you are an American citizen, and haven't voted yet, make sure that you do today. Last time, only half of young voters cast their vote. In our Laidlaw community, let's make it 100% this time.

I voted.

I voted based on the values that are important to me. I chose the candidate who:

  • Protects women’s health and their right to choose
  • Understands the urgency of the climate crisis, and will work to safeguard the environment for future generations
  • Is universally respectful, including to women, immigrants and those with disabilities.
  • Seeks to spread truth and positivity, and does not revel in lies and name calling
  • Has not been convicted of multiple counts of fraud
  • Has not filed for bankruptcy repeatedly, leaving small business owners unpaid
  • Seeks to solve complex problems; not knowingly, recklessly promising simple fixes
  • Focuses on unity, not division
  • Upholds, not upends, the fundamentals of democracy
  • Will represent America on the world stage with grace and dignity
  • And appears to have the full set of character traits that over ten years of research from the Oxford Character Project at the University of Oxford, suggests are necessary to be a leader for good; not just drive and courage but also collaboration, humanity, humility, integrity, temperance, justice, accountability and transcendence.

These things matter to me, and so I cast my vote for Kamala Harris. Whatever you

value, whoever your head and heart tells you to support, please go vote. Please encourage your friends, family and classmates to vote too. Your say is vital; so in twenty years’ time, whatever the result, you can look your child or godchild in the eye, and say I acted and voted to elect a good leader.
