Happy Pride Month 2021! This June, we are featuring inspirational quotes from extraordinary LGBTQ+ leaders. 🏳️‍🌈


Laverne Cox (1972-) is an American actress and LGBTQ+ advocate, known for her role as Sophia Burset in Orange Is The New Black. She is noted by many for being a trailblazer for the transgender community.

She is the first transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award. In 2015, Cox won a Daytime Emmy as an executive producer, becoming the first transgender woman to win the award. In 2017, she became the first transgender person to play a transgender series regular on US broadcast TV.

Cox became the first transgender person to appear on the cover of Time magazine, and Cosmopolitan magazine. She is also the first transgender person to have a wax figure of herself at Madame Tussauds.
