Before my meeting with my mentor I drafted my own coding scheme of the behaviors I most wanted to look at.
I then had a meeting with Prof Slocombe and her research team to discuss what behaviors I had picked up on after watching the videos yesterday. We went through these attention directing behaviors one by one and made a drafted coding scheme together - clarifying anything and making sure there weren't any behavior I'd missed. it didn't look like it missed many so good start! We then started to discuss rules for how long each behavior should be present for.
After the meeting I have just spend a few hours writing up the scheme with its full instructions - we just have a few more bits to clarify before it can be imported into the coding software and I will be good to start my inter-rater reliability when i start officially on the 5th of July!
I'm a final year psychology MSci student specialising in developmental disorders. My project focuses around the development attention in infants and if certain maternal strategies scaffold joint attention and how this varies cross culturally in the UK and Uganda.
I'm hoping to pursue a PhD in the future!
