This week we focused on getting to know the organisation Communidad - how deep its involvement was in the Shipibo Konibo Community, particularly focusing on the charity's capacity to improve the nutritional standards, currently inadequate in mitigating the growing trend of anaemia amongst its younger population. We had the opportunity to connect personally with the children and understand what life more broadly speaking is like for them. A comprehensive tour of the entire community, its medical resources, history, culture, conflicts, and discontent helped us ensure that the ideas we have in resolving the medical issues children face was sensitive to their contextual circumstances. Learning about the entire food preparation process, from sourcing, preparing and distributing food helped our group identify more intricate caveats with the lack of nutritional food stuff kids are eating. This allowed us to fine-tune the focus of our project, and the solutions we could devise in the limited time available to help the community in a sustainable manner.
