I’m excited to share my current project as part of the Laidlaw Leadership Scheme, focused on identifying business opportunities and environmental impact initiatives within County Durham, in the North East of England. This project aligns with the goals of enhancing regional growth, supporting entrepreneurship among young people, and contributing toward the UK’s Net Zero goals.

🔍 Objective: The primary aim of my project is to explore the business landscape in County Durham and uncover gaps within the innovation and support system, while identifying strategic areas for carbon reduction and sustainable growth. I’ll be collaborating with various stakeholders including SMEs, educational institutions, and community leaders to  undestand and contribute to bridging the gap between local initiatives and larger economic goals.

🏗️ Key Areas of Focus:

1. Market Analysis: Conducting a deep dive into local industries to identify business growth and innovation opportunities.
2. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborating with RTC North and local business leaders to understand challenges and opportunities, particularly in supply chain development and sustainability efforts.

3. Sustainability: Promoting carbon reduction and net-zero initiatives in alignment with County Durham’s business growth ambitions.

🎯 Plan & Approach:

• Start with a comprehensive literature review on innovation dynamics in the region.
• Conduct interviews with local businesses and supply chain experts.
• Collaborate with RTC North and other community partners to design impactful solutions.
• Present findings through workshops and seminars to promote sustainable business practices and entrepreneurship.
