Medellin - LiA weeks 1&2

It has been an incredible first two weeks in Medellin. My project is based in Comuna 6 with Corporación Picacho con Futuro, a community organisation that has been doing amazing social work in the area for over 35 years.

One of our first major tasks was a very hands-on introduction to the neighborhood: our team helped wash and prepare over 700 banana leaves! These were used to cook traditional meals for a local bazaar, and we ended up helping provide over 300 meals for the locals. It was a fantastic way to immerse ourselves in the community spirit right away.

Outside of the project, a massive highlight for me has been the food. I've been getting the menú del día at local spots, which is delicious, authentic, and a great way to experience the daily culture. I’ve also loved seeing the city at night, particularly taking in the local bike life culture and heading up to the viewpoints overlooking the valley. The language barrier is definitely real, but I’ve been having a lot of fun trying to pick up local Paisa Spanish and interacting with the residents.

I am looking forward to diving deeper into our main project next week!
